But why sort it yourself if the municipality does it too?

Good question! In many large cities, you throw all waste into one bin, and the municipality later separates the usable materials. This is called post-separation. It sounds easy, but it has a major drawback: everything gets contaminated. What a waste of all those valuable resources!
